The triple world champion in the 110m hurdles and American Olympic vice-champion Greg Foster died Sunday at the age of 64, the UCLA athletic department announced Monday.
The American hedge legend had been battling amyloidosis, a rare disease in which a buildup of proteins causes organ damage, for several years. This disease led him to undergo a heart transplant in 2020.
Silver medal at the Los Angeles Olympics
Following a stellar college career at UCLA during which he won the national 110m hurdles title in 1978 and 1980, Foster won a total of 10 U.S. national indoor and outdoor hurdles titles from 1981 to 1991.
Foster won gold in the 110m hurdles at the first three World Athletics Championships in 1983, 1987 and 1991, in addition to a silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in her specialty.
