Arrived in Saint-Etienne at the end of the 1960s from AS Real Bamako, Salif Keita will have marked the history of the Greens. Nicknamed “the panther”, the first African Golden Ball in history (1970) scored 140 goals in 185 games. After five seasons with the Saint-Etienne team, the Malian joined Marseille before trying his luck in Spain and Portugal before retiring in the United States with New England. A tribute will be paid to him during the match between Saint-Etienne and Valenciennes counting for the 5th day of Ligue 2.
