Legend of Saint-Étienne, Georges Bereta died – France – Saint-Étienne

RIP.

AS Saint-Étienne announced on Tuesday the death of one of its former players, Georges Bereta, at the age of 77. The former attacking midfielder of the Greens succumbed to a long illness. Trained at ASSE, Bereta wore the club’s jersey 343 times between 1966 and 1975, notably winning six league titles and three French cups. His transfer to OM in January 1975 made him “ the first French player transferred to the transfer window », in his own words – and will allow him to pocket an extra cup.

The small size also had 44 selections with the France team, including 12 as captain. During his career, he also distinguished himself off the field, campaigning for the establishment of fixed-term contracts for players, who then signed life contracts binding them with their training clubs until they were 35 years old.
