Leander Haußmann’s “Stasi Comedy” has been awarded the highest rating of “particularly valuable”. Theatrical release is May 19th.

Leander Haußmann’s (62) new feature film “Stasikomödie” (theatrical release on May 19, 2022) has been awarded the highest film rating “particularly valuable”. After the cinema successes “Sonnenallee” (1999) and “NVA” (2005), it is the conclusion of Haussmann’s GDR trilogy.

In the justification of the FBW jury (German Film and Media Rating) it says that the comedy is “a nostalgic rollercoaster ride of emotions through a life full of secrets, peppered with a good dose of self-irony”. It’s “fun to remember and delve into that past.”

Subcultures in East Berlin in the 1980s

“Stasikomödie” tells of the subcultures in East Berlin in the 1980s and immerses the audience in the bohemian life of Prenzlauer Berg at the time.

The main roles are played by David Kross (31) as a young and Jörg Schüttauf (60) as an older Stasi employee Ludger Fuchs, who was a Stasi informer in the Berlin cultural scene. And Henry Hübchen (74) plays Stasi officer Siemens. Margarita Broich (61) and Antonia Bill (34) share the role of his wife Corinna. In addition to directing, Leander Haussmann was also responsible for the screenplay.
