Allegations against Trump accuser – Witness visibly feels uncomfortable in court
Prosecutor Fani Willis has charged former President Trump in Georgia with attempted election fraud. Now she is suddenly in the crossfire herself: Trump accuses her that her relationship with a colleague represents a conflict of interest.
EThe judge in the trial against former President Donald Trump in the US state of Georgia dealt with allegations against the responsible district attorney, Fani Willis, at a hearing. The focus of Thursday’s court hearing in Atlanta was the question of whether the 53-year-old’s personal relationship with one of the other prosecutors in the case represented a conflict of interest. Lawyers for Trump and a co-defendant accuse her of this.
There was a tense atmosphere at the hearing, which was presided over by Judge Scott McAfee. Prosecutor Willis is accused, among other things, of unlawfully benefiting financially because of her relationship with Nathan Wade. This includes, among other things, financial benefits that arise from the employment relationship.
While Willis acknowledged a personal relationship with the colleague, she emphasized that there was no conflict of interest that would justify removing her from the case.
Trump calls for the prosecutor to be removed from the case
Among those interviewed was Terrence Bradley, a former colleague of Wade’s who was also his divorce lawyer. Among other things, it was about the question of when Willis and Wade met. Bradley was visibly uncomfortable during his testimony.
The allegations were originally made by lawyers for a co-defendant, Trump’s former campaign aide Mike Roman. They not only asked McAfee to remove Willis from the case, but also to drop the entire charge against their client. Trump and other co-defendants joined the demand.
Campaign worker Roman was indicted last year alongside Trump as one of 18 other defendants for alleged attempts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
Willis hired prosecutor Nathan Wade in November 2021 to assist in her investigation. The question was whether Trump and others broke the law when they tried to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. Since Trump and 18 others were indicted in August, Wade has led the team of lawyers Willis assembled to handle the case.
In a recent affidavit, Wade said he never lived with Willis or shared an account with her. He also did not share any income he earned from his work with her. They are both financially independent adults.
