Law enforcement will use drones to secure the event

In addition to the 1,000 police officers, gendarmes and private security agents mobilized to supervise the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which will open on Tuesday evening, on the Croisette, the authorities will be able to use drones. In a decree published on Monday, and spotted by Nice morningthe prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes authorizes “the capture, recording and transmission of images by means of cameras installed on aircraft” for the duration of the event.

State services justify the use of this additional tool because of “international events requiring specific means of anticipation and technical support”, but above all “the social context and possible protest mobilizations”.

” Special attention “

As every year, demonstrations will be prohibited in the city center and in particular around the palace. But, in view of the mobilization against the pension reform, “particular attention will be paid to possible gatherings of people”, said the sub-prefect of Grasse, in charge of coordinating the security system.

He also said he was well aware that the authorities will “perhaps have additional sources of work compared to last year”. The CGT Energie notably threatened the event with giant power cuts.
