Lauterbach calls on risk groups to receive a booster vaccination
Starting this week, the adapted vaccine against Corona will be available in doctor’s offices. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has already been vaccinated. He called on older people and risk groups to follow his example.
bHealth Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) have called on risk groups to be vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus. “People aged 60 and over and at-risk groups should get vaccinated, ideally against influenza. When it comes to influenza, too, it is the elderly and those with previous illnesses who are most at risk,” said Lauterbach on Monday in Berlin. The aim is to reduce the risk of contracting Long Covid.
At the appointment, Lauterbach himself was vaccinated against Corona with the vaccine that has been adapted to combat new virus variants. From this Monday, the vaccine from the manufacturers BioNTech/Pfizer will be available in doctor’s offices. “Overall, we will have a lot of cases of corona infection again this fall,” said the SPD politician. But there is broad immunity in the population. “Based on what we currently know, we don’t need any measures in the sense of contact restrictions.” Nevertheless, everyone should protect themselves if they have risk factors. “This can also include using a mask in rooms with many people if he is at risk.”
“A mask helps protect others”
The acting RKI President Lars Schaade advised people to generally stay at home for three to five days if they have symptoms of an acute respiratory infection. “A mask helps protect others,” he explained.
In the past few weeks, the number of corona infections has increased again, but according to Schaade, it is still at a low level. However, the so-called pandemic radar only reflects the picture to a very limited extent because it only records positive PCR tests. However, most infected people can no longer be tested. The so-called seven-day incidence is no longer so important today, said Schaade.
However, the number of doctor visits and hospital admissions of patients with an infection increased again. Covid-19 deaths are also increasing significantly again. The number was 223 last week, according to Pandemic Radar. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 175,865 people nationwide have died of or with Covid-19. On Sunday, the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) recommended that risk groups get vaccinated.
