The crime. The second suspect in the attacks that left ten dead and 18 injured in an indigenous community in the center of the country died after being arrested on Wednesday September 7. “Shortly after his arrest, Myles Sanderson entered medical distress,” explained to the press the deputy commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Rhonda Blackmore, without giving more explanation on this discomfort.
By late afternoon, provincial police had announced his arrest on Facebook : “Myles Sanderson was located and taken into custody near Rosthern, Saskatchewan at approximately 3:30 p.m. The 32-year-old man, who was armed with a knife, was spotted after stealing a car in an area about 100 kilometers from the crime scene. Known to the police and the justice system for multiple acts of violence and theft, Myles Sanderson had already been wanted since last May for not having respected his judicial control. For four days, the police multiplied the alerts and warned the population of the dangerousness of the suspect.
The body of his brother, Damien Sanderson, had been found on Monday, larded with several stab wounds near the scene of the crimes. The circumstances of his death remain to be clarified, but he could have been killed by his brother, according to the police.
Hundreds of police tracked the two men for several days. Both are believed to be responsible for the attacks which ont targeted an aboriginal community in James Smith Cree Nation and the nearby town of Weldon, Saskatchewan, a large, sparsely populated rural province in the mid-west of the country.
IThis is one of the deadliest attacks in the country in recent years. “Now that Myles is deceased, we may never be able to understand his motives”added Rhonda Blackmore, specifying that more than 120 interviews with relatives or witnesses had already been conducted without this allowing to shed light on the passage to the act.
