In Hamburg, the group “Last Generation” is making headlines again. Now she has once again blocked traffic on the famous Köhlbrandbrücke in the port of the Hanseatic city.

New protest by the “Last Generation”: Several members of the group, which claims to be committed to climate protection, blocked traffic on Hamburg’s Köhlbrand Bridge on Tuesday.

According to the police, several people are said to have glued themselves to the roadway. The group “Last Generation” said that behind the blockers, other activists dumped gravel from a truck onto the roadway. Traffic in both directions via the important connection through the port of Hamburg was blocked in the afternoon

The “Last Generation” often has their sights set on art and culture

Only on March 23 did members of the “Last Generation” block the Köhlbrand Bridge. They had fixed themselves to the roadway with quick-setting concrete. The bridge built in 1974 over the Köhlbrand, a branch of the Süderelbe, is considered one of the symbols of the Hanseatic city and is the most important connection in the port.

The “Last Generation” group specializes in spectacular actions that easily make the headlines. Last Saturday, for example, members of the association blackened the water in a famous Baroque fountain at the foot of the Spanish Steps in Rome, Italy, by pouring a liquid into the 17th-century fountain.

The group also became known to a broad public by throwing paint, mashed potatoes or soup at famous paintings, although observers are mostly unclear as to how these actions could be related to climate protection.
