The public prosecutor’s office in Neuruppin is currently examining the suspicion of forming a criminal organization against the “Last Generation”. Now more than 1300 people have indicated themselves as supporters of the group.

After the house searches of several members of the “last generation” in mid-December, more than 1,300 people reported themselves, according to the climate activist group. “Under the hashtag #wiralle sinddielastgeneration, 1332 people informed the Neuruppin public prosecutor’s office over the holidays that they consider themselves part of the ‘last generation’,” said the group.

They assumed that the Basic Law, human rights and the penal code were on their side, it said. The self-disclosures are intended to speed up the full examination.

Two weeks ago, apartments in several federal states were searched by climate activists. The public prosecutor’s office accuses them of forming or supporting a criminal organization. Now it remains to be seen whether “house searches will follow” for the 1,332 people, according to the group.

Prosecutors confirm hundreds of voluntary disclosures

The public prosecutor’s office in Neuruppin in Brandenburg has so far received around 380 self-reports, it said. The public prosecutor had ordered the house searches.

A petition launched a few days ago on the Internet entitled “Become part of the criminal organization ‘Last Generation'” recorded more than 1,000 self-incriminations by Tuesday afternoon. The petition states, among other things, that the signature confirms to the public prosecutor’s office that the signatories are also part of the “criminal organization”.

“Protest is absolutely necessary”

The group’s statement quotes a lawyer who justifies his self-report in a tweet as follows: “The Neuruppin public prosecutor’s office is pursuing the #LastGeneration as a criminal organization. I don’t want to be missing there and have therefore reported myself. Anyone who sounds the alarm in the face of the climate crisis , does not endanger public safety.”

Spokeswoman Carla Rochel explained: “Our democratic protest is absolutely necessary when you see that we are racing into a climate catastrophe completely unprotected. Instead of investigating peaceful citizens, the government should rather focus on initial security measures such as the 9 euro ticket or a speed limit of 100.”

She also announced that eight supporters were still in prison in Munich. Ten of them were taken into long-term police custody there last week. They had stuck themselves on a street in the Bavarian capital.

Disruption of Christmas service planned

According to the police in Stuttgart, several activists planned to disrupt the live broadcast of a Christmas service on television on Christmas Eve. The protest action was therefore known in advance, after which the service was recorded the day before.

On Saturday, however, eight climate activists met in front of the closed church. The police gave two “potential troublemakers” a place reference.
