Last concert of the “Intimacy Quarterly” series in the Munich Blitz Club. – Munich

Anyone looking for intimacy should definitely find it on the dance floor. Where the music manages to create a feeling of community when sweating bodies move to the same beat. True intimacy perhaps only arises when distance is explored and (too much) closeness is questioned. Boundaries like these were also tested at “Intimacy Quarterly”. On Thursday, January 25th, the experimental concert series enters its final round.

For Mira Mann, who curates the avant-pop series, and Daniela Scholl, responsible for production, there was always a lack of exchange in Munich. Between musicians and concert goers. So they created the framework for it themselves: It started in April 2022 with semi-acoustic sets, a lot of positive feedback and a clear feeling for what “Intimacy Quarterly” should be.

As abstract as Mann is otherwise (in addition to her role as host, she is also active as a musician, poet and author), the event name sums up what lies behind it: a space in the pop cosmos, of intimacy – musically , interpersonally, but also socially – allows. Four times a year. In addition, the community evenings in the “Intimacy Quarterly Playground” workshop format were founded, which encourage Munich’s creative people to jam and discuss together.

The last episode of “Intimacy Quarterly” is dedicated precisely to them: In addition to Mira Mann, who starts the evening with an intro as always, there are three other local acts that perform at the Blitz Club: Tiger Tiger, for example. Cornelia Pazmandi, who is behind the project, enjoys working in collaboration with other artists, but is now performing her first solo set on “Intimacy Quarterly”. For her sound she relies on dark basses, atmospheric echoes and intoxicating synthesizers.

Josh Neumann aka Mindsight is similarly experimental: with his euphoric soundscapes and deconstructed beats, the DJ and producer moves somewhere between trance and danceability. And with “Candid” the producer-percussion duo presents Pop & Polygonia his first long player. The debut album consists of studio and live recordings that sometimes take some getting used to, sometimes seem groovy. More than anything else, the evening will be about spontaneity, improvisation and togetherness – on and off the dance floor.
