A shooter at a US university had applied for jobs in vain

One day after the gun attack at a university in Las Vegas, the police revealed details about the alleged perpetrator: The man was targeting university employees.
The suspected shooter of the fatal attack at a university in the US city According to police, Las Vegas had previously applied for a job at several universities without success. “We are still learning a lot about this suspect and are still trying to understand his motive,” said Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Police Department.
“We know that he applied many times to multiple colleges in Nevada and was rejected each time.” It is a 67-year-old. Police officers shot the shooter at the scene. The man had previously killed three people. According to police, all those who died were university lecturers. Another lecturer was injured and is still being treated in hospital.
Las Vegas is located in the US state of Nevada and is known for its casinos. McMahill said the suspect had a list of people he was looking for on the university campus, as well as lecturers at another university. “We also know that the suspect was in financial difficulties.” During a search of his apartment, investigators found an eviction notice on the front door. In addition, a kind of will was deposited there.
Students were apparently not the target of the attack
The morning before the crime, the man went to a post office and sent 22 letters without a return address to various university employees across the country, McMahill said. “The first letter we opened contained an unknown white powder substance.” The envelopes are currently still being examined. The sheriff urged caution if other education employees received letters without a return address.
McMahill said the shooter fired a handgun and brought eleven magazines to the scene. He acquired the weapon legally in 2022. The university emphasized that students at the university were not the target of the attack.
In the USA, rampages and fatal shootings are sadly part of everyday life. Firearms are easily available there and are widely circulated. Deadly attacks with many victims regularly shake the country – for example at schools, supermarkets, nightclubs or at large events. Calls for stricter gun laws regularly come to nothing.
