“Smash” was chosen as a youth word last year. Will it be “Auf Lock” or even “Digga(h)” this year? A clip with Susanne Daubner is already going viral.

“Tagesschau” spokeswoman has been in effect for some time Susanne Daubner as a kind of cult announcer for the “Youth Word of the Year”. She caused a sensation on social media with another presentation. “The decision about the youth word of the year goes into the next round,” said Daubner in a 40-second “Tagesschau” clip.

And further: “This year you can choose from the following top ten: “Auf Lock”, “May he like that?”, “Digga(h)”, “goofy”, “guy”, “NPC”, ” Rizz”, “Side Eye”, “Slay”, “Yolo”. Voting for the top three will then run until September 13th, as always on the Langenscheidt Verlag website.”

At the end, Daubner turned away from the audience and asked her colleagues in the room: “Wasn’t Yolo even “Youth Word of the Year” 2012?”. On Instagram alone, Daubner received more than 200,000 “likes” by the early afternoon.

Daubner first caused a stir on social media with the topic of youth word in 2021 when she explained the winning word “cringe” in a state-supporting tone: “”Cringe” is the feeling you have when I say the following sentence: “Digga, how fly is actually the ‘Tagesschau’ when it flexes with youthful words. Runs with you – ARD.” Daubner is 62 years old and therefore part of the baby boomers, at least in terms of age, who are often ridiculed by young people.

Langenscheidt-Verlag had announced the terms available for the “Jugendwort 2023”. Everyone can choose from the top ten on the website “www.jugendwort.de” until September 20th. However, only the voices of participants between the ages of 10 and 20 are relevant for the evaluation. You can then choose again from the three favorites. The winner will be announced on October 22nd.
