Lack of care: Munich children’s clinics are running out of beds – Munich

Munich children’s clinics are filling up rapidly. It’s not Corona to blame – it’s the RS virus, which children keep getting sick from. The fact that there are now so many also has to do with the pandemic.

Just last week Florian Hoffmann had another case like this: A very sick child was in the emergency room for 16 hours. What was urgently needed was a real bed, in a well-equipped intensive care unit, with the necessary equipment – and the specially trained doctors and nurses. After the long wait, the solution finally came: a transport could be organized. Because it couldn’t stay here in Munich, there was simply no more space. So we went to the closest clinic outside of town. Sometimes it goes to Rosenheim, sometimes to Traunstein, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Landshut, Kaufbeuren, or sometimes almost 200 kilometers away to Passau. Now and then it goes to cities outside of Bavaria, reports Hoffmann. Relocation has long since become part of everyday life.
