Labor market – more vacancies than ever before – economy

Despite the Ukraine war and the economic downturn, there are more vacancies than ever before. Their number rose to a record of 1.98 million nationwide in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to the Institute for Labor Market and Occupational Research (IAB). “The need for personnel in Germany has reached a new all-time high with around two million vacancies,” said IAB labor market researcher Alexander Kubis. “The vast majority of vacancies can be filled immediately and the operational pressure to find suitable personnel is often high.” Around 1.63 million jobs were to be filled immediately and 352,500 positions later.

Compared to the summer quarter of 2022, the number of vacancies increased by 8.8 percent.
