L214 files a complaint against a municipal slaughterhouse after “scenes worthy of a horror film”

Animals cut up while still alive, or struggling before and after having their throats slit. Others who react to the stabs and guillotine pliers when their legs, horns or heads are cut off. L214’s new investigation still sends chills down the spine with unbearable images. The animal rights association is this time targeting the municipal slaughterhouse of Craon (Mayenne) where the videos were apparently filmed anonymously between November and December.

“Scenes worthy of a horror film,” assures L214, who filed a complaint on Wednesday for cruelty, serious abuse and mistreatment and is demanding the immediate closure of the establishment. “This slaughterhouse presents significant structural problems, mainly at the stunning station,” indicates the association, which also deplores “the lack of intervention by veterinary services. » Following the complaint filed by L214, the Laval prosecutor’s office announced that a judicial investigation would be opened and entrusted to the gendarmerie.

The installations have been changed, assures the prefecture

In a press release, the prefecture indicated that “the four slaughterhouses of animals for slaughter in Mayenne, including the Craon site, are subject to permanent inspection by the State veterinary services. » She also ensures that she “sent on April 21, 2023 to the operator of this slaughterhouse a formal notice on the conditions of immobilization of the animals before their stunning”, a formal notice which was lifted “on the following July 12 corrective actions already initiated. »

At the end of December, “new restraint equipment more suited to all sizes of cattle was put into service”, continues the prefecture, for whom the installations filmed by L214 “are therefore not those currently in service within the Craon slaughterhouse. »
