“Fierce fighting in the besieged town” of Avdiïvka. “Our troops are using all available forces and means to contain the enemy”explained Oleksandr Tarnavskiy, a senior Ukrainian military commander, while Volodymyr Zelensky assured Thursday that the army was “everything possible” to save the troops at Avdiïvka. The White House, for its part, spoke of a situation “critical” and fears that the city will fall into the hands of the Russians.

Volodymyr Zelensky expected in Paris and Berlin. The Ukrainian President and French President Emmanuel Macron will sign a security agreement between their two countries on Friday at the Elysée, according to the French presidency. Volodymyr Zelensky, who is to argue for an increase in military support for his country, will first travel to Munich and Berlin, where he is due to meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The White House is concerned about an anti-satellite weapon developed by Russia.
