Kulturtage Bogenhausen: That’s what’s going on at the culture festival – Munich

There is high culture in Bogenhausen, too, but on the weekend between May 5th and 7th, local artists are to be brought onto the big stage. Actually, the “Culture Days Bogenhausen” should have taken place in 2021. Then came Corona, then the celebrations around the 50th anniversary of the Olympic Games in ’72. After the long wait, the interest in the district festival in the north-east of Munich is all the greater. A total of 175 artists, creative people, associations, groups and institutions are taking part at 42 venues.

This year there are even two open-air stages instead of just one for concerts, dance and sport. One of them will be set up on the fairground in front of the Cosima-Bad, the other in front of the municipal singing and music school at Neuberghauser Straße 11.

The cultural community center on Maria-Nindl-Platz also has a longer, and above all time-consuming, history. Construction work started there this year. The new cultural and social facility should be ready in 2025. What it could look like in the Prinz-Eugen-Park is something the supporting association “13er Kultur” will deal with on Saturday, May 6th, from 2 p.m. A glimpse of the new building can be seen through “windows to the future”.

The artists’ association “BoArt” has curated an exhibition entitled “Change” that will be on view until mid-June. It will open on Friday, May 5, from 7 p.m. in the Kulturstation on Possartstraße. The group chose the title change because change is an existential process that is visible everywhere – including in art. “From the composition to the finished work, artists go through countless stages that are subject to their own laws, similar to life processes,” says BoArt artist Elke Reis.

Guided tours and workshops

Whether you take the historic bus on a “Cool Tour” through the district or take a look behind the scenes on foot at the Prinzregententheater, the events and hands-on activities organized by local institutions this weekend are free of charge. In the rooms of the Villa Stuck, for example, visitors can dance freely on Sunday, May 7th. Dancer and activist Soumayya Gad Alla gives a workshop in the style “Waacking”.

Not only on the two open-air stages and in the museum, but also in other places in Bogenhausen there is a lot to discover – definitely off the beaten track. On Friday, May 5th, the Enoch Ensemble will play a concert in St. Emmeram’s Church from 8 p.m. It reinterprets the pieces of the recorder ensemble “Bogenhauser Künstlerkapelle”, founded in Munich in 1890. “With a similar line-up, the sound will come very close to that of the Bogenhausen artists’ band,” says Christian Seidler from the “Alte Musik in Bogenhausen” association. One day later, on Saturday, May 6th, woodwind players will bring their instruments to Bogenhausen. The “Claymore Pipes and Drums”, a formation of bagpipe players and drummers, will play from 12:45 p.m. on the large stage in front of the Cosima-Bad.

Anyone who has always wanted to know how firefighters in the form of pigs get along with gender justice is probably in good hands with cabaret artist Christl Sittenauer. On Friday, May 5th, she will present her solo program “Women are not people” in the center for the deaf at Lohengrinstraße 11.

It’s not just adults who can experience culture in Bogenhausen, there are also many program items for children. In the children’s theater in the Bogenhauser city library, for example, they can experience “The Brave Little Tailor” during his adventures or listen to the reading of the bilingual children’s book “Khipu der vier Andenkamele” by the author Ofelia Huamanchumo de la Cuba. On Saturday, May 6th, the voluntary fire brigade will be showing how fire rescuers work all day long in their equipment house in Oberföhring.
