Kretschmann: States must be involved in the heating law

When it comes to the Building Energy Act, Prime Minister Kretschmann insists that the federal states be involved at an early stage. Regions with municipal heat planning should not be disadvantaged, he said in the Report from Berlin.

Baden-Württemberg Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann warns against putting the states under time pressure. The Greens politician left open whether the heating law can be passed in the Bundesrat at the beginning of July – and thus before the summer break.

In the Report from Berlin said Kretschmann, the key points of the law are now available, but still have to be developed. He can only advise the federal government to talk to the states now. Otherwise there could not be a quick approval, so Kretschmann.

But constantly putting ourselves under time pressure just because it took us so long is of course not acceptable.

Municipal heat planning must be in place

The traffic light compromise in the heating law stipulates that its regulations should only take effect when there is a municipal heating plan. This must be done by 2028 at the latest.

Baden-Württemberg and three other states have already passed their own laws for municipal heat planning. Kretschmann emphasized that these countries should not be disadvantaged.

Union warns of “patchwork”

Municipal representatives in Baden-Württemberg warn that the strict rules for heating replacement will soon apply to citizens there, while citizens in countries without heat planning would have more time. That is unfair.

The deputy head of the Union parliamentary group, Andreas Jung, also warned of a “patchwork quilt”. It needs clarity and the same rules for everyone.
