Kratz’s Vocabulary: Was Bertolt Brecht a Buckler? – Bavaria

buckle driver

The playwright Bertolt Brecht was born 125 years ago. As important as his work may be, it used to annoy entire generations of students to be teased with Brecht’s Lehrstück. Word had also got around that Brecht was a loud-mouthed womanizer who not only had many love affairs but also exploited his lovers and their abilities for his own purposes.

The question remains why these women allowed themselves to be exploited. Most of them were clever, but almost obedient to the poetic macho. Only Marieluise Fleißer later settled accounts with him in a story. Men like Brecht are called women at the regulars’ table, and sometimes the term buckle driver (Schnoinfahrer) is also used. This is actually a synonym for a pimp who lets hookers (Schnoina, prostitute) work for him.

In a further meaning, however, those men who get involved with many women and lose their moral integrity in the process are also regarded as bucklers. Alongside Brecht, many famous writers acquired the reputation of being women and hustlers: Sartre, Remarque, Benn, Kästner, to name but a few. In view of the rigid standards of today’s morality, they can no longer get out of this number.

early

The world champion in the women’s slalom race will be determined next Saturday in Méribel, France. One of the favorites is Lena Dürr from Munich, who took many years to advance to the top of the world. A former racer recently said: “Now she’s ready, Lena.”

An apple also needs a certain amount of time before it is ripe, i.e. until it develops its full maturity. A group of parents recently debated when children should be sent to school, as early as five, or as late as six. There are many children who are not yet mature at the age of five. But that doesn’t matter. They just need a bit longer until they are ready for school.
