Eintracht cheers for Filip Kostic

Eintracht Frankfurt created the big surprise: The team won 2: 1 (1: 1) at champions Bayern Munich. Leon Goretzka gave Bayern the lead (29th minute), Martin Hinteregger equalized for Frankfurt (32nd). Filip Kostic scored the celebrated winner in the 83rd minute.

Ilsanker replaces Hasebe

Eintracht went into play with a five-man chain – Stefan Ilsanker replaced the injured Makoto Hasebe in the defensive center, and Tuta also made his first starting XI this season. As expected, Frankfurt initially concentrated on defensive work, while Bayern put pressure on from the start. The first big chance had Robert Lewandowski, who headed just over the goal of Kevin Trapp after four minutes.

The champions subsequently created numerous opportunities: Trapp managed to steer a rebound from Kristijan Jakic over the box (13th minute), and after the corner that followed, the keeper also held Thomas Müller’s shot. In the 25th minute, the advanced Niklas Süle aimed at a pass from Müller just wide of the near post. In the 29th minute the bell rang almost logically: Hinteregger lost the ball in forward gear, Bayern switched quickly and Goretzka made it 1-0.

Touré has the lead on foot

But Eintracht, which until then could hardly do anything with their own possession, was not deterred: Jakic won the ball against Dayot Upamecano, Hinteregger headed the corner from Filip Kostic following the duel to 1: 1. For the bolder Frankfurters, Almamy Touré even had the lead in the 42nd minute, but did not get the ball past national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. On the other hand, Serge Gnabry should have brought the home side back into the front after a cross from Leroy Sané, but only hit the outside post (44th).

After the restart, Eintracht remained brave and passionately defended their own goal. In the 56th minute Trapp had another big appearance when he was able to fend off a Lewandowski header from close range with his long leg. Otherwise, the Hessian defensive bulwark withstood the Bavarian attacks for a long time – precisely because Trapp was always there when his defenders were outplayed, such as when Gnabry shot from an acute angle (64th).

Kostic lets the unity cheer

As a result, the Bavarians’ attacks became more furious. This resulted in spaces to counter, which Eintracht was initially unable to play properly. That changed in the 84th minute, however, when Kostic hit the ball on the left, beating it boldly into the goal – 2: 1 for Eintracht, which brought this flattering but passionately fought result over time.

Several series ended for Eintracht: It was the first victory in the current Bundesliga season after six straight draws and at the same time the first success of the Hessians at FC Bayern Munich in over 20 years.
