Have I forgotten something important?” The first-person narrator of Konstantin Ferstl’s “The Blue Border” cannot be summed up more succinctly and excitingly than the fellow passenger in the Russian dining car. And it says a lot about the author’s sense of humor that he, of all people who is able to fable so uninhibitedly in his novel, relies on mischievous succinctness here.
