Kolumbusstraße in Munich: the coalition stands by the road closure – Munich

The anger of at least some residents about the temporary closure and redesign of Kolumbusstraße is of course also registered in the city council. However, the coalition of Greens/Rosa Liste and SPD/Volt stands by the pilot attempt to take a street for cars and give the people in the neighborhood a different use. “The summer streets have broad support in the Munich city council,” said Green City Councilor Gudrun Lux. The SPD also supports the project. “As a parliamentary group, we would like the districts to try out how more space can be created for greenery and pedestrians,” said Chairwoman Anne Hübner.

SPD city councilor Roland Hefter had previously caused irritation and astonishment in the coalition. He had himself in the Picture-Zeitung not only spoke out against the two pilot tests in Kolumbusstrasse and Landlstrasse, but also described them as campaign aid for the AfD. “You don’t have to be surprised that the AfD is getting a lot of support,” he is quoted as saying. His parliamentary group leader Hübner reprimanded him for this: “The tone was not appropriate.”

In the matter, Hübner tried to capture the dissenting attitude of her group colleague. He wanted to suggest that “local people have to be better involved and involved in mobility tests,” she said. The faction leader also sees potential for improvement. “It would be great if the city administration managed to create more local consensus in other projects.”

The Greens were irritated to annoyed by Hefter’s attitude. Of course, you could “reject individual summer streets or the whole concept,” said Lux. She finds it totally wrong that Hefter goes so far as to describe them as useful for the AfD. “Democrats don’t vote for the extreme right just because they don’t like a summer street.”
