Klaus Lemke: His life, his films – to the death of the filmmaker

Filmmaker Klaus Lemke died in his hometown of Munich at the age of 81. Lemke was one of the most important independent directors in the country. He produced his films on a tiny budget and mostly with amateur actors. His films such as “Rocker” (1972) or “Amore” (1978) captivated with their great naturalness and vitality due to the often improvised dialogues and the scenes filmed with a hand-held camera. Lemke was the discoverer of countless actresses and actors, including Iris Berben, Cleo Kretschmer, Wolfgang Fierek, Dolly Dollar and Saralisa Volm. Most recently, Lemke appeared at the Munich Film Festival in June of this year.
