If you want to go inside the bathing room, in the Holy of Holies in the Kirchseeoner Perchten, you have to bend down. One more, the other less, depending on your height. Because this gate is like a time travel portal, it is the threshold into a past in which people were even smaller. Where they had no electric lights, no radiators, and no screens to distract them from what was going on out there. When winter and especially the turn of the year were a very special time, one full of fears. Darkness, cold and storms afflicted people and animals, and spring seemed an uncertain distance. This made people move together and look for “explanations”, for hopeful myths and comforting stories, as well as for protective, salvific rituals.
