The animal roamed the Scottish Highlands for several days – and was already given a cinematic nickname. Now there is news from “Kingussie Kong”.

After days of searching, an escaped monkey is in Scotland is back. The Japanese macaque disappeared from a zoo on Sunday – search parties had been on the lookout for it ever since. The monkey was captured on Thursday, as the zoo operator Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) confirmed.

After a call to their hotline, zookeepers and a drone team went to a citizen in whose garden the monkey had been eating from a bird feeder. The monkey was caught with the help of a tranquilizer dart.

“The monkey is now on the way back to the park with our zookeepers,” said Keith Gilchrist from Highland Wildlife Park. A veterinarian will take care of the monkey named Honshu. Local media had named the animal “Kingussie Kong,” after the town of Kingussie.

Several local residents spotted the animal during his trip. Experts advised caution: The monkey probably poses no danger to people or pets, but you should still not approach it to be on the safe side.
