25 years of “King of Queens”: Leah Remini and Kevin James celebrate the anniversary of the successful sitcom with emotional words on social media.
On September 21, 1998, actors Kevin James (58) and Leah Remini (53) were together for the first time in “King of Queens” can be seen on TV screens. Now the successful American sitcom is celebrating its 25th anniversary. On this occasion, the two main actors took the opportunity to look back on the time with emotional words on Instagram who began their success as serial couple Douglas and Carrie Heffernan.
“Thanks to the best fans in the world”
To a photo in which the late “King of Queens” actor Jerry Stiller (1927-2020) can be seen alongside Remini and himself, writes Kevin James: “25 years ago today we went on the air. I feel so incredibly blessed to have taken this journey with Leah Remini and Jerry Stiller, both of whom are insanely talented… and thank you to the best fans in the world. Love you !”
The series was like a “home” for Leah Remini
While James keeps his anniversary text on Instagram relatively short, Leah Remini describes her emotions and thoughts on the 25th anniversary of “King of Queens” in a little more detail.
“By the time I signed on as Carrie Heffernan, I had already gone through hundreds of auditions, been cast in many pilots and a few short-lived series, and finally I was offered ‘King of Queens.’ As soon as production began on the first season, I knew I, that I’m home”, the actress looks back. “I feel blessed to be able to say that I was a part of this truly special series that lasted for nine seasons and 207 episodes and is still going strong.”
Remini was also touched by how much “King of Queens” fans integrate the series into their lives. “I wanted to let you know that I see the comments saying that you fall asleep to ‘King of Queen’ every night, that it gets you through tough days and tough times in your life, that you are with us first laughed once a day, or that you watch a few episodes every day, or that you feel connected to your families because you watch the series together.”
The story of “King of Queens”
The hit sitcom is about the overweight courier driver Doug Hefferson (Kevin James), who lives with his wife Carrie (Leah Remini) in the New York borough of Queens. Because Carrie’s eccentric father Arthur (Jerry Stiller) burns down his house in the pilot episode, he moves into the basement with the Heffernans. A trio that still makes fans laugh to this day.
