After the arrest of an 18-year-old in Lower Saxony, the Heidelberg district court issued a pre-trial detention order on suspicion of murder. The man is said to have stabbed a student in Sankt Leon-Rot.
The 18-year-old suspect had an accident in a car on Thursday during a chase in Seesen (Goslar district) – almost 400 kilometers from the crime scene. He collided head-on with an oncoming car on a main street, according to a joint statement from the Heidelberg public prosecutor’s office and the Mannheim police. The 18-year-old is said to have fled from the investigators, sometimes at high speed. It is unclear why his path led him to Lower Saxony.

The 18-year-old and the driver of the other car were taken to hospitals with injuries. A video circulating on the social media platform YouTube shows officers surrounding the getaway car moments after the collision with guns drawn, pulling the man from the wreckage and arresting him. According to the report, investigators discovered a knife during the subsequent search of the car. According to the investigators, this is said to be the murder weapon with which the 18-year-old is said to have killed the student of the same age on a school campus in Baden-Württemberg on Thursday morning.
After the attack: Police spoke to the suspect
