Killed Ayleen from Gottenheim: Life sentence for Jan P. – Panorama

In the trial surrounding the violent death of 14-year-old Ayleen from Baden-Württemberg, the Giessen Regional Court sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment followed by preventive detention for murder. The judge saw it as proven that 30-year-old Jan P. strangled the student in July of last year. The court also found that the guilt was particularly serious. This means that early release after 15 years is virtually impossible. The verdict is not yet legally binding.

In the trial, Jan P. had to answer for, among other things, murder, attempted rape resulting in death and coercion. The 30-year-old met the student on a social network. He had repeatedly demanded nude photos from the 14-year-old, putting pressure on her and also threatening to kill herself or harm her family members. In July last year he abducted Ayleen from her hometown of Gottenheim near Freiburg, took her to a forest near Langgöns in the Gießen district and tried to rape her there. He finally strangled the 14-year-old and dumped her body in a lake. In a statement read out by his defense attorney, Jan P. stated that Ayleen had provoked and insulted him, so he became angry and killed her.

The case is also considered an example of so-called cybergrooming, i.e. the initiation of sexualized contacts with minors over the Internet.

Jan P. was convicted of a sexual offense as a teenager and was hospitalized in a forensic psychiatric hospital for years. This measure had no effect, said senior public prosecutor Thomas Hauburger and had asked the court for preventive detention for the defendant. In their plea, the defense lawyers rejected the particular gravity of the guilt because the 30-year-old could not be proven to have attempted rape or to have a sexual motive for the crime.
