Status: 07/23/2023 00:01

Two aircraft bombs from the Second World War are to be defused in Kiel today. The Ostring and Werftstraße are also affected by the closure around the Werftpark.

By 1 p.m. today, almost 9,400 people must have left their houses and apartments on the east bank in Kiel for the period of bomb disposal. At the same time, the police set up roadblocks. The Ostring will be closed between Stoschstraße and Grabastraße. Werftstrasse is closed from Zur Fähre to Hollmannstrasse. Heavy-duty traffic should bypass the restricted area on a large scale.

For the duration of the operation, the Norway quay at Ostuferhafen can only be reached from the south. Passengers who arrive or depart on a cruise ship today must be prepared for longer journeys to and from the airport due to the closures.

Duration of the defusing still unclear

When examining the information provided by viewers, the explosive ordnance clearance service discovered the two 500 and 250 kilogram bombs in the shipyard park. It is not yet clear how long the defusing will take and when the blocking can be lifted. Emergency services are asking residents to prepare for an absence of several hours and to plan food, drinks and any medication they need accordingly. The canteen of the Hans Christian Andersen School in Stoschstraße is available as emergency accommodation from 11 a.m.

Inform neighbors

The police are asking residents, neighbors and other affected people to inform them about the defusing so that they can reach as many people as possible away from the media, warning apps and leaflets. Residents who need help leaving their homes are asked to contact the Kiel professional fire brigade service hotline on 04 31 / 590 55 55 in good time. The number is available from 7 a.m. today.
