A televised first leg, followed by a return match in court? Footballer Karim Benzema has filed a complaint for defamation against Gérald Darmanin, we learned from a source close to the matter on Tuesday.
This aims the comments made on CNews last October by the Minister of the Interior, who affirmed that Benzema was “in notorious links with the Muslim Brotherhood”, a radical Sunni Islamic organization. A statement which was then commented on at length in the context of the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
At the start of this affair, the attacker had expressed “all (his) prayers for the inhabitants of Gaza” and denounced “unjust bombings”. Gérald Darmanin then estimated that the absence of reference to Israeli victims of Hamas in the player’s tweet “(hid) something”.
