Austria’s Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) tested positive for the corona virus on Friday. He is said to have been infected by a member of his security team. But a photo from a ski hut raises questions.

Karl Nehammer is sick with Covid-19. This was announced by Austria’s Chancellor on Friday. On Twitter, the person who had been vaccinated three times announced the disease and stated: “The infection happened through a member of my security team”. Accordingly, the 49-year-old is said to have been infected on Wednesday evening from the man who tested positive the next day. But a photo that made the rounds on social networks shortly afterwards challenged his explanation.

The picture shows the Chancellor in a ski hut on the Carinthian Katschberg. He is sitting close together at a table with eight other people – without a mask, without any distance. Is it possible that the Chancellor could have been infected there?

Karl Nehammer’s spokesman denied

His spokesman Daniel Kosak denied. About the said photo that he shares on Twitter, he writes: “Before any inaccurate rumors arise: This photo was taken on December 29th (in compliance with the 2G rule). A week later, the Chancellor was tested negative for the PCR Contagion occurred after his return from vacation “.

He had no symptoms, said the Chancellor on ORF radio on Saturday. Thanks to a booster vaccination, the disease is harmless. Despite recent critical voices, the ÖVP-Greens government will stick to the corona vaccination plan planned for February 1, emphasized Nehammer. He does not want to rule out a vaccination bonus to increase the willingness to give protective injections.

However, more detailed analyzes have shown that money alone cannot convince vaccine skeptics. The Chancellor referred to the experiences of companies that could not have achieved convincing vaccination results even with higher premiums.
