Luka Modric praised his Real Madrid midfield partner Toni Kroos in a touching message posted on social media, after the German announced his retirement this summer.
Together they won 22 titles with Real Madrid. But the page will turn this summer with the announcement of the retirement of Toni Kroos (34 years old) after the Euro played with Germany. The metronome will leave a void in the selection, as in the club, in particular for Luka Modric, his very faithful partner in the Madrid midfield. The Croatian (38) paid a vibrant tribute to the former Bayern player on Instagram.

“Dear Toni, it is difficult for me to write these words,” begins the former Tottenham player. “The world of football is sad because a historic footballer is leaving, and I admit that I am also very sad. My friend, you are a legend of this sport and a legend of Real Madrid. I really enjoyed playing by your side. It was truly an honor to share the Real Madrid midfielder with you.”

Kroos, who arrived at Real in 2014 two years after Modric, won 22 titles in ten years with the Spanish club, including four Champions Leagues, four Ligas and five Club World Cups in particular. He can still add one last line to his list of achievements before leaving since the Merengues must play the final of the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund, on June 1 at Wembley, to try to win the 15th trophy in the club’s history in the competition.
It could also be Modric’s last match with Real. At the end of his contract this summer, the 2018 world vice-champion would like to stay for another season but a decision will be made after the final.
