For Immanuel Kant, the French Revolution was an “event of our time that proves the moral tendency of the human race.” He formulated this judgment in his work “Dispute of the Faculties” in 1798 at a time when, for most other German and European observers, the revolution had long since lost its innocence through terror and war, the blood orgies of 1793 and a conflict between states that was already at that time was called “World War”.
