Kammeltal: practice bomb discovered with poison – Bavaria

A practice bomb from World War II was found during construction work in Waldheim. The surrounding danger area was initially evacuated until employees of a special company identified the find as a practice bomb.

After the leak of highly toxic liquid from a training bomb in Swabia, the contaminated soil has to be removed. A construction worker scratched the bomb from the Second World War with an excavator shovel on Tuesday during road works in Waldheim (Günzburg district), the police said. Yellow smoke rose, which later turned out to be poisonous gas. The bomb has since been removed. Nobody got hurt.

According to the police, a small exclusion zone was set up around the site, and residents had to leave their homes. Experts would have found that the explosive device contained an ampoule with a highly toxic liquid that evaporates on contact with oxygen and forms a toxic cloud. It is assumed that the soil will be removed “promptly”, said a police spokesman on Wednesday. Practice bombs are not live and were used for training and dropping practice.
