Justice investigates new cases targeting Dino Scala

A judicial investigation has been opened into a series of rapes, attempted rapes and sexual assaults which could be attributable to Dino Scala, already convicted of 54 similar acts, AFP learned on Tuesday from the Valenciennes prosecutor’s office. confirming information from JDD.

An investigating judge was seized for the purpose of opening a judicial investigation, on March 15, for “a series of acts of rape and attempted rape and sexual assault committed between 1988 and 2009”, following the trial by Dino Scala, nicknamed the “rapist of the Sambre”.

Outstanding case

These facts concern “13 victims who appeared in the context of the initial investigation”, but also a fourteenth, “integrated in the context of the judicial investigation but who no longer appeared at the stage of the referral to the Assize Court and who contacted the judicial police of Lille to renew his complaint”.

On July 1, 2022, after three weeks of hearings, the North Assize Court found Dino Scala guilty of 54 of the 56 acts of rape, sexual assault (or attempts) for which he was tried. He was sentenced on July 1, 2022 to the maximum penalty incurred: 20 years of criminal imprisonment, with a two-thirds security period. He appealed against his conviction, not recognizing all the facts.

Dino Scala, 61, was prosecuted in this extraordinary case for 17 rapes, 12 attempted rapes and 27 assaults or attempted sexual assaults, committed between 1988 and 2018 near his home, around the Sambre river, in France but also in Belgium.
