The murder of the then Kassel district president Walter Lübcke in June 2019 was a turning point: for the first time in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany, an active politician was murdered by a right-wing extremist. The case also exacerbated the view of hatred on the Internet, because Lübcke had been threatened on social media.
