Just Eat, meal delivery platform, almost shut down due to strike

Have you been unable to order your meals on Just Eat in recent days? This is undoubtedly due to the social movement which is shaking up the delivery platform, which has been almost at a standstill for two days. The strike was triggered by the suspension of employment contracts for undocumented couriers by management, a representative of Force Ouvrière (FO) Paris told AFP.

Just Eat only has around a hundred permanent employees among its troops, all in Paris, according to FO, after a vast job protection plan in 2022 at the end of which “more than 300 employees” had been made redundant . “Nearly ten Just Eat delivery drivers have had their employment contracts suspended,” FO explained in a press release. “These workers, then undocumented, had nevertheless submitted their regularization file to the prefecture”, a “procedure” carried out with “the agreement of their company”.

Financial difficulties

While the Just Eat company “announced more than a month ago that it was experiencing financial difficulties”, “would the objective be to eliminate all employment contracts for the company’s delivery workers, starting with employees in the regularization procedure? », asks the union, demanding the “immediate reinstatement” of employees whose contracts have been suspended.

The Anglo-Dutch group Just Eat Takeaway, after suffering heavy losses at the beginning of March, immediately announced it was cutting more than 1,700 jobs in the United Kingdom, mainly delivery workers, as part of a plan to savings.
