All of them have acquaintances, friends or relatives in Israel who were affected, some indirectly and some directly, by Hamas’ terrorist attack. But he and his colleagues woke up as journalists in a different world, says Philipp Peyman Engel. The 40-year-old has only been the paper’s new editor-in-chief for just under a month – and he already has to manage an editorial team in the greatest possible state of emergency.
