Lyon will pay tribute this Wednesday to its former mayor, who died Saturday evening at the age of 76. Elected officials, personalities and anonymous people are expected for the funeral of Gérard Collomb, at Saint-Jean Cathedral, in the historic heart of the city that he embodied for a long time. The celebration, chaired by the Archbishop of Lyon Mgr Olivier de Germay, will be held from 11 a.m. in the presence of Emmanuel Macron and Élisabeth Borne. The head of state, to whom the Lyon baron had provided decisive support during the 2017 presidential election, must speak during the ceremony, as will his former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe and academician Marc Lambron. In accordance with the wishes expressed during his lifetime, a large part of the places within the cathedral will be reserved for Lyonnais.
After Paris-2024, will France add the Alps-2030 to its long Olympic list? France will find out this Wednesday if it has convinced the IOC to remain in the running to organize the Winter Olympics in less than seven years, a daring bet as Paris hosts the summer Olympics in eight months. After an express campaign and a file put together in a few weeks, the French Alps will hold their breath at the end of the day. The IOC’s announcement should come around 6 p.m. at the Hoche show in Paris. Shortly before today, the commission of the future host will present its recommendations to the members of the IOC for the 2030 and 2034 editions. They will then choose whether or not to enter a “dialogue phase”, with one or more candidates, officially meaning for the candidate(s) excluded from this dialogue, the end of the dream. With its project going from Nice to Grand Bornand, France will also have to win over the two heavyweights that are Sweden, unsuccessful candidate for the 2026 Olympics, and Switzerland.
