Joshua Kimmich clashes with assistant coach

The frustration at FC Bayern Munich continues 2:3 defeat at VfL Bochum deep. On the way to the dressing room after the final whistle there was an argument between Joshua Kimmich and assistant coach Zsolt Löw that almost became physical.

As several media outlets consistently reported, there was apparently a verbal argument between the two during the high-five after the game. It is not clear what Kimmich said to the assistant coach.

Löw then apparently wanted to attack Kimmich, but was ultimately prevented from doing so by Bayern’s physiotherapists. Kimmich is said to have then returned from the hallway to the dressing room to call Löw something back. The national player also had to be held back.

“Josh must have been fairly well served on the substitutes’ bench, but that’s normal,” said board boss Jan-Christian Dreesen about the situation. “He always gives his all and wants to win. It’s understandable that Josh is just angry at that moment.”

Head coach Thomas Tuchel also played down the incidents. “I know what was going on, but it’s not for the public,” said Tuchel after the defeat: “These are football locker rooms, it’s emotional there. That doesn’t say anything.” The whole thing was a “pretty normal incident after a defeat”.

With the defeat in Bochum, the German record champions now have three defeats in a row across all competitions. There is a risk of losing touch with league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. The gap to the Werkself is already eight points.
