Joe Biden wants to announce his candidacy on Tuesday, Donald Trump has already done so. The Democrat and the Republican are the most likely duelists in the 2024 presidential election. But the people are critical of a possible rematch.

There is still a long way to go before voters in the US on November 5, 2024 will determine who will rule the country for the next four years. So far it is not even clear who is running for the presidency from the Democrats and who wants to run for the Republicans. Joe Biden and Donald Trump are already there. The incumbent has indicated several times that he wants to run again and is expected to officially announce his candidacy on Tuesday. And his predecessor, Donald Trump, did so last November.

Duel Joe Biden vs. Donald Trump undesirable according to survey

As of now, the possibility is quite high that these two will actually duel for entry into the White House, as they did in 2020. US citizens are not particularly enthusiastic about a possible rematch between Biden and Trump, according to a poll by NBC News. “Substantial majorities of Americans do not want Trump or Biden running for president in 2024,” the US broadcaster writes.

According to the April 14-18 poll, 60 percent of Americans think Trump shouldn’t try to take over the Oval Office again — including about a third of Republicans. Thirty percent of those opposed to the ex-president campaigning in 2024 cite the criminal charges the 76-year-old is facing in New York as an “important” reason.

At the same time, 70 percent of respondents believe Biden should not seek a second term, including 51 percent of Democrats, NBC News further reports. For forty-eight percent of those who said this, the age of the 80-year-old is an “important” reason.

“As of this writing, 2024 is shaping up to be a continuation of the 2020 election,” NBC News quoted Hart Research’s Jeff Horwitt, a Democratic pollster who co-conducted the poll with Public Opinion Strategies’ Republican pollster Bill McInturff. “Sequels are often a box office hit, but apparently not at the ballot box.” And McInturff adds, “It’s clear that people don’t want a rematch between Biden and Trump.”

The NBC News numbers are consistent with other polls, which also suggest low enthusiasm for a Biden vs. Trump one-on-one. A survey by the institute YouGov for Yahoo News from April 14 to 17 showed that 38 percent of those entitled to vote feel “exhaustion” above all when the presentation of a new edition of the 2020 presidential election campaign is presented. Among the registered voters it was even 44 percent.
