The official selection for the next Cannes Film Festival will be revealed this Thursday, but
the information provided by the organizers this Wednesday gives a taste of glamor and cinephilia. Jodie Foster will be the guest of honor at the opening ceremony of this 74th edition, on July 6.

The American actress, director and producer will receive on this occasion an honorary Palme d’Or for her “brilliant artistic career,” the statement said.

“I am very sensitive to it”

The star will join the very closed club of personalities who have been entitled to this distinction: Jane Fonda, Jeanne Moreau, Agnès Varda, Jean-Pierre Léaud, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Manoel de Oliveira, Bernardo Bertolucci and Alain Delon.

“Cannes is a festival to which I owe so much, it has totally changed my life. Even though I had already shot, my first visit to the Croisette [en 1976, à 13 ans, pour Taxi Driver] was decisive. Showing one of my films here has always been my dream. I had the chance to realize it, several times moreover, specifies the one who declared to Andy Warhol to have always wanted to become a filmmaker. Cannes is an author’s film festival that honors artists. I am very sensitive to it, “reacted Jodie Foster, quoted in the press release.
