This was announced by the Carter Center on Saturday. “After a series of brief hospitalizations, former US President Jimmy Carter has elected to spend the rest of his time at home with his family and seek home care rather than further medical treatment,” the center wrote on Twitter . He has the full support of his family and medical team.
“The Carter family requests that privacy be respected and is grateful for the dismay shown by many of his admirers.” The Carter Center has not disclosed the reason for the hospitalizations and home care. Carter has survived a number of health crises in recent years, including skin cancer that has spread to the liver and brain and multiple falls.
The Democrat was the 39th President of the United States from January 1977 to January 1981. He served only one term. He lost the 1980 election to Republican Ronald Reagan by a landslide. Since then he has dedicated his life to humanitarian causes.
