Jim Jordan: Trump’s man for the counterattack

Jim Jordan wants to launch a counterattack – and prove that the US Democrats are using the public prosecutor’s office to indict Trump. The right-wing conservative is a star of the MAGA Republicans.

Host Matt Schlapp has invited many celebrities to the CPAC on the outskirts of the capital, the gathering of the most conservative of conservative Republicans in early March. But now, he says, he’s really proud to be standing alongside what may be the most powerful man in Washington – and the man next to him laughs a little.

Jim Jordan, a 59-year-old congressman from Ohio, is a star of the MAGA Republican movement and the type of politician known in Washington as a “conservative hothead”.

His trademark: square chin, pale complexion, thinning hair, dress shirt and tie, sharp mind, always ready to attack.

Powerful chairman of committees

What actually makes him powerful are his new features. Since Republicans took back the House of Representatives, Jim Jordan has chaired two committees: the Judiciary Committee and a new subcommittee tasked with investigating alleged abuses of federal agencies.

“We want to get to the bottom of the truth and the facts,” Jordan said last fall. “We believe that Americans have a right to it.”

Belief in instrumentalization of the public prosecutor’s office

Jordan’s truth, roughly summed up, is this: The Democratic Party and its leaders cannot politically defeat Donald Trump. So they try to depose him or throw him in jail innocently – and they use authorities like the FBI and the prosecutor’s office to do so.

The current example for Jordan is the New York prosecutor Alvin Bragg, who has just indicted Trump. Bragg used taxpayers’ money to impeach a past president who did nothing and interfere in a federal election, Jordan told Fox News last week.

Allegations against Trump accusers

While Bragg is focused on this, New York City is being ravaged by crimes that harm families, communities and small business owners. He wants to make sure the country understands that.

Today, Jordan is traveling to New York with his committee to hear witnesses and gather evidence against Bragg. The Democratic Party has portrayed the outing as a political show, saying it’s a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Conservative hardliner

Jordan doesn’t mind that. The man from Ohio, who has been in Congress for 16 years, is driven: intelligent but uncontrollable, a conservative hardliner, not a team player, always at odds with the world.

He can clinch, Jordan used to be a very successful wrestler. His sports friends believe that he has applied what he learned on the mat to politics.

“100 percent for Trump”

For years he has worked to bring right-wing conservative views to the center of the party, long before Trump, to whom he remains unwaveringly loyal. Jordan said in an interview last week that he was 100 percent for Donald Trump because, like no one else, Trump had shown that he was doing things the way he said he would.

But that’s exactly what he still has to do himself. Despite all the announcements, Jim Jordan has yet to provide any evidence that President Joe Biden, his family, or his government have broken any law.
