Mourning for Jim Hartz: The US news legend died at the age of 82, as his wife announced.

Journalist Jim Hartz, who shaped the US news world for over three decades, has died at the age of 82. This is reported, among other things, by “The New York Times” and refers to a statement by his wife, Alexandra Dickson Hartz. Accordingly, Hartz died of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) after deciding that his ventilator should be turned off.

Hartz became the youngest news correspondent for the US broadcaster NBC in the mid-1960s and at just 24 years old. Ten years later he was promoted to anchor for the Today Show, but he only stayed there for two years. Other stations in his long career included the broadcasters WRC-TV and PBS, and later he even went to Tokyo, Japan, for “Asia Now”. Hartz picked up five Emmys during his career. In his native Oklahoma, he was also inducted into the Hall of Fame for journalists.

Hartz leaves behind his wife Alexandra, two daughters, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
