After six months without a club, Jerome Boateng has signed a contract again. The former world champion and Champions League winner is moving to Serie A to US Salernitana.

The former national soccer player Jérôme Boateng will play in the Italian Serie A in the future. The 35-year-old former world champion’s move to US Salernitana is fixed, as the club from Salerno in southern Italy announced on Friday. Both sides have therefore agreed on a contract until June 30, 2024. Boateng should wear the number 5 jersey for the current bottom team in Serie A, it was said.

There has been speculation for a few weeks now about the ex-Bayern player’s move to Italy. Boateng landed in Salerno on Wednesday and underwent medical examinations on Thursday. According to media reports, he has already met Salernitana’s coach Pippo Inzaghi and got to know his new teammates.

Boateng became world champion with Germany at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He won the Champions League twice with FC Bayern. He last played in France for Olympique Lyon, but had been without a club for around six months.

FC Bayern also considered bringing in Jerome Boateng

In between, they at FC Bayern considered bringing Boateng back to Säbener Straße due to the personnel shortage in the squad. Those responsible at Bayern refrained from doing so after criticism was thrown at them. Boateng is considered by many to no longer be employable because proceedings are still ongoing against him for assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
