Eight departments on orange alert for storms

Charente, Gironde, Dordogne, Lot, Landes, Lot-et-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne and Gers. Here is the list of eight French departments placed on orange vigilance by Météo-France this Saturday. According to forecasters, major storms bringing significant precipitation are to be feared in these territories. “A depression over the Bay of Biscay will generate a rainy-stormy episode in the South-West this afternoon and this evening”, warns Météo-France in his newsletter.

A large part of France is also placed on yellow alert. “These storms will present intense electrical activity, which could cause violent gusts of wind of around 80 to 100 km/h, heavy precipitation and hail,” forecasters explain. The latter specify that the rainy character “will take precedence over the electrical activity” as it moves towards the Massif Central.

A “remarkable episode for the season”

The situation should be calmer on Sunday, even if significant precipitation is expected in certain areas. Significant accumulations are particularly to be feared in the Cévennes, where a Cévennes episode “remarkable for the season” is expected.
