Jean-Yves Le Drian to the rescue of Valérie Hayer and the Macronist list

They are well ahead of the National Rally. Struggling in the polls ahead of the European elections, the Macronists called on one of their best assets to try to relaunch their campaign. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs under Emmanuel Macron after a five-year term at Defense, Breton Jean-Yves Le Drian comes to the rescue of the presidential majority.

On Sunday, the former president of the Brittany region announced that he had taken the head of the support committee for Valérie Hayer’s Macronist list in the European elections in order to “mobilize, explain and convince”. His ambition? Put his “name”, his “history” and his “convictions” at the service of this list, he confided to West France.

He said no to Emmanuel Macron

Emmanuel Macron would also have asked him to run for the European elections, which he declined. “There is an age for everything,” explained the 76-year-old.

This support committee, which will meet for the first time “in a fortnight”, “aims to bring together very diverse political, academic and associative personalities”. Le Breton specifies that this national support committee should give rise to “fourteen regional committees”.

This committee hopes to give a new start to the campaign of the presidential majority, which is stagnating between 16 and 19% of voting intentions. Less than 50 days before the election, it remains very far from that of Jordan Bardella’s RN, given around 30% in the polls.

The left threatens? “It leads to a dead end”

It also faces competition from the list led by Raphaël Glucksmann (PS-Place publique), which is between 11 and 13% and seems to display better dynamics. “This left is leading to an impasse,” believes Jean-Yves Le Drian. A convinced European, the former minister believes that “if the Europe of the 21st century does not assert itself, it will fall apart”.
