Jean-Marc Valleé, who directed the Oscar film “Dallas Buyers Club” among other things, is dead. He was only 58 years old.

The director Jean-Marc Valleé is dead. As various media reports unanimously, the Canadian died at the age of only 58 under as yet unexplained circumstances. In a statement, quoted from among other things “Variety”, said a colleague producer and friend of Valleé, Nathan Ross, about the stroke of fate:

“Jean-Marc stood for creativity, authenticity and for trying things out in a special way. He was a true artist and a generous, loving guy.” Valleé was “a friend, a creative partner and an older brother” to Ross. A little consolation is the fact that Valleé will live on through his “effective works”.

Valleé started his career directing music videos in the 1980s before making his feature film debut in 1995 with “Black List” after several short films. This was followed by critically acclaimed films such as “Loser Love” (1999), “CRAZY” (2005) and the historical drama “The Young Victoria” with Emily Blunt (38). The latter strip was nominated for three Academy Awards, one of which it won (“Best Costume Design”).

The big Oscar litter

Valleé’s big hit on the big screen was the drama “Dallas Buyers Club” from 2013. Matthew McConaughey (52) won the Oscar for “Best Actor”, Jared Leto (50) also won an Oscar for “Best Supporting Actor” Golden boys excellent. “Dallas Buyers Club” was also nominated for “Best Picture” and Valleé for “Best Original Screenplay”.

The films “Wild” (2014) and “Demolition” (2015) followed before Valleé switched to series production. From 2017 he directed the first season of “Big Little Lies”, followed in 2018 by the miniseries “Sharp Objects”.
